BootCamp — Introducing the NLA Party Infrastructure

    Presenter: Basil Dewhurst

This session will introduce the NLA Party Infrastructure which underpins the Trove: People and Organisations zone and demonstrate how to retrieve data from its API interfaces for use in digital humanities projects.

The NLA Party Infrastructure and its dataset is based on approximately 860,000 records about people and organisations, or parties, contained in the the Australian Name Authority File which has been maintained by the National Library since 1981. It is important infrastructure for persistently identifying records about parties and linking these to party records in other services in Australia and globally.

Over time the dataset has been enriched through contributions by Australian Dictionary of Biography Online, Australian Parliamentary Library, Australian National Data Service, Australian Women’s Register, Design and Art Australia Online and Encyclopaedia of Australian Science. In the near future the Party Infrastructure will make available nearly 14 million records from the Virtual International Authority File.
