I am in the final year of my PhD at QUT, although I am now based in Perth as I write up my thesis (due in March 2011). My research is a comparative study of political blogging in France and Australia, analysing blog posts collected between January and August 2009, and uses a mixture of network mapping, visualisation, and analysis of hyperlinks and text content. My work is in the media and communication field, so although my interests include mapping digital/non-physical realms, tracking online discussions, and other visualisation processes, my background is not in computer sciences or stats (meaning some of my work relies on long, laborious manual processes).
