I am a graduate student at Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi. In spite of a relatively robust economy, art is bereft of any funding and state run museums are mere storehouses for important objects. Fueled further by a complacent public and a corrupt state, the museums are left to stagnate and their locations are mere road landmarks en route the cinema hall. At the University, a bunch of us are trying to change this in a small way. We are trying to use the internet, more specifically a blog site to guide tourists and visitors to experience the museum like a museum and not an attic stuffed with things. Funding is non trivial and we expect none, we do however hope to build an interactive site to help visitors. Although we have a lot more ideas than a blogsite, none of them will see daylight because of the sheer unimportance of museums in the vision of the Indian state. This project is central to this application. Apart from which, I also write for a few Asian arts magazines and curate walks at galleries. My research interests engage with new media literacy and participatory public spaces.
